No photos from our 4.5 mile walk on Saturday in Kershope Forest, it rained most of the time so I never got the camera out of the bag. Sunday was a better day and we parked at The Coombs below Hallin Fell. The church car park was pretty full at 9.10 am and we said hello to a couple who arrived just after us as we left to go up Steel Knotts. We were going up the north east ridge which I think is the best way up.
Ullswater from the climb
We had blue skies and sunshine but it was very cold.
The route up the ridge
It is an entertaining climb steep at times up a few rocky steps.
Looking toward Place Fell from the climb
The light wasn't great for photos because the low sun was casting a very dark shadow.

The rocky tor is called Pikeawassa.

The couple we'd said hello to near the car had done the same route and arrived on the top after we'd taken a few photos. We chatted to them for a while, nice people. They were going onto Bonscale Pike but we were doing Hallin Fell. We said goodbye to the couple and were on our way again. The wind had increased by the time we got on to the top and it was freezing, very winter like it is now. We decided to go down on the Martindale side toward The Coombs.

Descending into Martindale
The skies had clouded over by the time we reached the old church and the wind had gotten stronger. We took the footpath by Cotehow to get back to The Coombs and we sat and had some lunch with an Ullswater view

Hallin Fell
We got cold very quickly so it was a very quick stop for lunch. We dropped down to the church car park which was pretty full with cars as were the other parking areas and began the climb up onto Hallin Fell.

It was really windy here and even more cold so we didn't stay long

Toward Dunmallard Hill from Hallin Fell
We descended as quickly as we could to get out of the wind and the sun came out to warm us up a little. Our walk was 4.5 miles and 513m of ascent.
