« on: 19:05:02, 03/08/20 »

I'm starting to hanker after my fix of purple   :)

Anyone know if the heather's out yet up on the moors?

Hi wombat, cheers for that.  Would you say another couple of weeks before there's supreme purplieness?

Glad you had a good walk on Spaunton Moor.  Don't believe I've walked there *goes off to google...*

Any walk recommendations?

When I was wandering in the Arenigs area in Wales last September I saw acres of grey, dead heather plants, which I had read in a news article some time before my trip was due to some sort of an infestation.
Does anyone have any knowledge about this?

Yet isolated flowering heather plants in the dunes around Harlech, made me want to take a visit to Beacon Hill, of Lloney fame in G&P languid loiter, where I was surprised not to find swathes of purple. I felt a bit reassured that I had not missed my annual fix, for it seems a bit early. Hope Fernman's fears of not the reason.

Yes there was some sort of heather disease last year causing it to grow blind and die.  Don't think its an issue this year though.

Thanks both.

According to today's York shire post, the same beetle is doing it again.

Cheers for this wombat  :)   I think the next few weeks will see me getting up onto the moors for my purple-fest so I'll give that a go.  Blakey Topping for me tomorrow as I think I'll get a good view of the heather situation from the top of there, even if I'm not walking amongst it (or maybe not as it's surrounded by Dalby Forest!).  I'm also feeling an urge to get up to Kildale and see what "Old Meg" is all about (reference the other topic where access to the falls has been blocked).

:(   how dare it deprive me of my fix of purple.

Just to whet your appetite Mel, Dunwich Heath today.  :) Heather is probably past it’s best but it is further south than Nth Yorks Moors

One for you Mel taken today. Sneaton Low Moor, next to Fylingdales. Walk from Whitby, Staithes, Falling Foss, May Beck, Sneaton Moor, ugglebarnby, Whitby round. Canny hike, but really hacky, claggy, filthy dirty in Littlebeck to Midge Hall section.

Hope you enjoy the Northern ling.
