With the higher Mournes covered in cloud yesterday I drove to Rostrevor to walk to my favourite place in the Mournes which isn't actually a mountain. I had planned to do the entire Slievemartin round including Slieveban and Slievemeen but upon climbing out of Kilbroney forest, all three summits were clagged in. Plan B came into play. I would walk to a bench on the upper slopes of Slieveban without actually climbing to the summit. The bench offers great views across Carlingford Lough to Slieve Foye. Starting from Kilbroney forest car park I picked up the Cloughmore trail through the forest to a giant boulder. Thereafter I made my way to the bench. The walk was a 'to there and back again', quite unusual for me in the Mournes. Apologies for the lack of reports in recent weeks but I've been undergoing a change in employer recently and needed Saturdays to figure out revised travelling arrangements.
