Skiddaw
« on: 15:47:12, 22/04/12 »
Hi folks. My mate has planned a walk for late may. There is part of the route I'm unsure about. I need to know if what is marked on the map is actually a path or just a boundary as marked. If it is a path an idea of the terrain (muddy, boggy, rocky or good) . It's an area I have not been up.
It starts at (outdoor leisure 4) 324,282 the boundary goes approx 282deg West from Atkinson pike to cloven stone, then to the stake at ( outdoor leisure 5)296,288. There is then a wall marked, need to know if we can follow this wall to the bridle way at 294,288. Any ideas folks. If its not as my pal thinks then we need a re- think..
Paul.

In my limited experience it will always be boggy in that area but, if we are lucky enough to have a dry spell then it might not be too bad. The other thing I would say is, if you know it is going to be boggy.....wear gaiters......I wish I took my own advice sometimes lol  :D ;D

Hi Paul
I may have this wrong here, but the area you mention is only 240 metres along the wall, so after crossing Mungrisdale Common you're worried about this bit?  ::)
Sorry if I've misunderstood your question  :)

Ta for the replys. Yes got my gaiters ready!! :-). So mungrisedale common is passable? I take it it's tough? As for the 240 m stretch yes that's the bit we intend to do but I need to know what I'm getting myself into. 😉

That line is just a parish boundary, there's no path on the ground.  The "wall" is a fence over boggy ground which is passable.  There is a path leading down from Atkinson Pike to the "summit" of Mungrisedale Common and another, fainter, one from there to the Cloven Stone I think that continues down to a footbridge over the Glenderaterra at 296 278 where there is good path leading up to the bridleway.
