Rescued In Martindale
« on: 17:57:56, 17/03/18 »
I'm not sure if I shared this blog on the forum from back in November 2016. it's worth a read if I didn't, as I will probably remember this walk for all the wrong reasons. Nonetheless, i'll always have a little smile when thinking back to it  :)

What an absolute gentleman the farmer was to keep an eye out for you  O0
These are the sort of things which make some walks unforgettable.

Absolutely Mark, these things are what make the Wainwright journey special. When you leave the car, hostel, B&B or whatever you never know what the day will hold in store for you. It can bring the best out in people.........even farmers  :)

I did eventually get a message of thanks again to the farmer via Twitter through Ullswater tearooms.
I was extremely grateful and felt the need to thank him again  :)

Another tip for getting out of boggy ground is to use your car mats under the driving wheels. They may need a good wash after but preferable to spending the night in the car ( unless there is a friendly farmer around.)

Thanks Keith, hopefully I have learnt my lesson, but yeah I didn’t think of the mats.
One to bear in mind, IF it were to happen again. O0

I’ve also been told a stick tied on to one of the driving wheels with those plastic ties apparently works   :-\

I certainly wouldn’t want to rely on a local farmer for help, in this instance I think I was just very lucky to get assistance from one. Can’t say the same in other parts of the Lakes  :)
