So yesterday made a break for it in the sunshine......................fed the cat, sprayed some fleaspray on carpet, shoved cast out back window, shut window, legged it for bus. Made it to Buckden via the dalesbus. Above is some meadow near Buckden.
I soon had to overtake a troop of about 20 old codgers, groups like that shouldnt be allowed when I am about >:(

there were some more codgers later, one of em was bent down taking a pic.............turned out they found (Greater?) Butterfly orchid, new one on me

kept having to re overtake te smaller group of codgers, one of em said their leader was their old biology teacher from school, taking them on a flower spotting expedition! He looked at least 75......................they invited me to join em, but I had distance to cover.

got back to Buckden wi good half hour before bus...................maybe 6 miles or so walk (?) took me 4.75 hours. Went to Buck inn for pint in beer garden before bus, been once before 2 or 3 years ago, its inthe good beer guide 2017 that I just bought......pub was closed with a to let sign up. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR >:(
There oughta be a law against this when I want to visit!!!
Back in grassington, got talking to shopkeeper who sold me my cappucino ice cream
(http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/treehugger1972/SDC10568_zps9yqn6wr2.jpg) (http://)
he said the brewery wanted too much rent, n forced em out the Buck, ironically twas a lovely day, they could have done plenty o trade if they had been open!!!
An utterly superb walk for scenery n nature, as good as I remembered it  :)

Looks like a fab place to walk  :) Great pics and I wish I knew the names of all the flowers like you do  O0

In order for the flea spray to work on the carpet, you perhaps need to de-flea yourself too  :D

Cappuccino ice cream! Aren't you getting posh  ;)

I got caught out by the Buck Inn a few months ago.  And it was Tuesday so the George at Hubberholme was shut.  A sad and thirsty day.

Yes a lovely TR Ed (Git). Very interesting about the flowers, I see them and don't have a clue..
So many Dales pubs are struggling, breweries milking them for everything. Very foolish, but it has been this way since I was a lad. The place is very quiet in winter, and Buckden just doesn't get the tourists any more.

great TR

got to love the codgers ;D

i know this walk well...it really is rather lovely. i seem to remember seeing dippers on the river by Yockenthwaite

all too true about the pubs, unfortunately. i think the buck was shut about 6 years ago too and the white lion in cray has been shut a few times over the past few years

out of interest, has anyone ever been in the victoria arms in worton (near Askrigg)? it's a wee bit different!

Well there were certainly some tourists there on Wednesday! And theres a camping pod place..............dont see why Buckden wouldnt be popular.
Except for the lack of refreshments!
Looked at a CAMRA/pub site (forget which) and the Buck was closed in December? :(
Emailed me mate who knows about such things, he reckons Buck is owned by Enterprise Inns, who have a rep for charging high rent, forcing the tenants out (allegedly) and later converting to housing.
So think the writings on the wall................. :(
yes its fab up there. The bus taking me from Grassington to Buckden is some community project, if they give up, there will be no public transport. Which seems to be the way things are going..............

I'm familiar with Enterprise. They do charge high rents, pure greed. ANY business needs time to establish, and taking on a Dales pub requires skill and resources. Profit needs to be put back in, not milked off.
You would be surprised at what Buckden has to offer.. including an active 'swinging' community..  :D  (I know about it, not a party to it)

Your 'more common orchid' is actually a Fragrant Orchid --- not all that common at all

Great shame about the Buck Inn.  Too many good pubs are gone or going.

Definitely Fragrant Orchid.  Lots about it here -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymnadenia_conopsea.

It's not common in the north, but masses on the Ridgeway between Tring and Princes Risboro'
