My first visit to Wales
« on: 20:27:00, 04/09/19 »
I have always been a Lake District person, fell in love when I was a kid but I was persuaded to visit Snowdonia for my first time and I have to admit, I regret not visiting sooner, but don't tell the Lakes forum :)

Travelled up on the Bank Holiday Monday and stayed for 4 nights at the NT campsite nr Llyn Gwynant. Brilliant little campsite and was blessed with lovely weather. On arrival after pitching up I took a walk recommended by the NT website around the lake taking in some brilliant views of Snowdon for my first time.

After walking through some welcomed shaded woods Llyn Gwynant came into view and the views across it from both sides were brilliant, I was already falling in love with the place.

An absolutely delightful introduction to Snowdonia on a gentle low level walk. With Snowdon my mission for tomorrow I was looking forward to a great day in the Welsh mountains....TR Snowdon report to follow :)

Some lovely photos there - brings back memories of when the Snowdonia hills were literally on my doorstep.

Good luck with Snowdon tomorrow.

Great photos and I'm looking forward to your TR.

My wife and I have spent two separate walking week holidays in Snowdonia in the past year. We were based near Snowdon for the first and not far from Cadair Idris for the second. We absolutely love the area!

Have a great time!  :)

Come back soon, and even though you were blessed with some amazing weather, Wales has a lot more to offer than Snowdonia.
Its has some beaches to rival anything in Cornwall, some amazing coastal paths in Permbroke in the South, and Anglesey in the North.

I agree, a totally new destination looks more inviting and welcoming in beautiful weather, but i hope you make a return visit, to either the Brecon Beacons in the South or other areas of Snowdonia.

if i am around, you will always be guaranteed of a warm welcome.

A lovely introduction and photos, there are plenty of good low-level walks to enjoy.  O0
Looking forward to the TR.

A very common bias unfortunately, largely thanks to you-know-who combined with the tourism obsession. In the hill bagging thread on this board there is only one list mentioned, as if nobody ever walked hills anywhere else.

Yes, interesting that there isn't a Scottish equivalent for the 'M' word.

Not that I intend starting one!

Thanks for reading and replies.

I now have the choice of driving 7 hours to The Lakes or 5 hours to Snowdonia for my next holiday. Why can't such beautiful places be nearer to me?  :(

Definitely going back, not sure if to same area or explore further afield but this trip has opened up a whole new world of opportunities for new adventures.
