I'm glad common sense prevailed and the return of your Scarpa boots went smoothly and without the expected hassle.

It might be worth looking at the Meindl Bhutan MFS GTX which can currently be had for £133.45 with free delivery from Blacks online.

They're currently listed @ £157 which is already a very good price for these boots but if you're not already an existing online customer you can use code NEWSU at checkout when ordering to get a further 15% OFF (see link below). Cashback is also available if you go via TopCashback.

Yeh I went out today to look again. I really want those boots to fit. Unfortunately the toe box is very cramped, quite unusual.
Vakuums are a totally different fit and are brilliant, but pricey, so I'm having a think. If Im gonna spend £200 or so I might aswell do the whole altberg thing. I spoke to my nearest stockist/fitter and they said altberg are on holiday so I should wait a couple of weeks because theyve hardly got any stock at the mo.
The alternative is those lowa renegades, which basically feel like slippers, so incredibly comfortable and are available very cheap. After my experiences I'm worried about the potential of leaking still. As mentioned before, all those panels and stitching, yikes!

The thing about Lowa renegades is that, if they fit you, they do feel like slippers, and you can do a long walk with them straight out of the box.  No, they don't last for ever, but I have had two pairs and they aren't much worse than other lightweight boots I have owned.  I would say I did between 1000 and 1500 miles in each of the pairs I've had before they got a bit leaky and got demoted to beach boots, when they did another year or so. They are simply the most comfortable boots I have ever owned, and in the end I decided to trade longevity for comfort.
I switched to Scarpa last time I bought a lightweight pair of boots, but will go back to the Lowas next time.
I also have a pair of Altberg tetheras, and I have to admit I don't wear them nearly as much.
The trouble is, in the end you need more than one pair of boots......
