April has it!
I managed to steal a few hours in the hills on my way back from Lincoln to Orkney last week, pitched my tent at Sykeside then up steep slopes to Caudale Quarry, and on up the ridge to Stony Cove Pike. Decided to beat a retreat as it was misty on top and I didn't fancy blundering around on unknown hills in the murk at 1645 on a March afternoon. Returned north over Hartsop Dodd, down to Hartsop (STEEP), and then back along the western shore of Brotherswater, birds singing in the gathering dusk, the first owl hooting just as I got back to the tent. I certainly earned my pint(s) of Cumberland Ale!
