I'm looking for a new waterproof jacket for birding / photography. The current contenders are the Paramo Halcon and the CI Linnet. I've tried the Paramo but haven't yet managed to try on the CI coat. I need something rustle free in muted colours with ideally a few pockets and relatively light.

The only thing I don't like is the price  :D  so are there any other contenders I should consider. I forgot to mention I don't do camouflage

Any advice appreciated

The Paramo Cascada Jacket gets good reviews on a few bird watching forums and is a fully waterproof system when combined with the Cascada Trousers. I've had both for quite a few years and both have been bombproof as long as they are regularly washed and reproofed.

This might be worth a look @ £161 https://www.tauntonleisure.com/paramo-mens-cascada-jacket-forest-moss.html
and this @ £179 https://www.startfitness.co.uk/paramo-cascada-mens-waterproof-jacket-blue-nau959-blue.html
(Price Match on this one available at Go Outdoors taking it down to £161.10 and cashback is also available via TopCashback)
If Size XXL this Forest Green is available on eBay @ £150 and cashback also available via TopCashback https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Paramo-Mens-Cascada-Jacket-Forest-/401569541580

Paramo Cascada II Waterproof Trousers from around £88 and cashback is also available via TopCashback https://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/search/go?view=grid&w=Paramo+Cascada+Trousers

You need to do your own digging for the best prices and availability and eBay and amazon are always worth checking.

£161 is a very nice price for that jacket. Wish I'd seen that a few weeks ago.

The Linnet looks like a good.jacket too for that sort of activity. Nice colour for the the woods.

I like Paramo for strenuous activity. If I was going to be standing around a lot in rain, where waterproofness was more important than breathabilityi think I'd be inclined to favour a membrane type jacket. But I dare say either would be good.

Thanks for the heads up.From what I can tell the main differences between the Paramo jackets is the cut and the Halcon has a few more pockets and a more fitted cut ? If so those extra pockets must be really special at nearly double the price !!

I think you're right and despite the more fitted cut the Halcon has a slightly heavier average weight at 967g against 860g for the Cascada. It must be those baggy pockets!  ;D

The Cascada has been around for donkeys years and still remains one of their best sellers despite them reducing the colour range where the Halcon is a relatively newer model.
