GinAndPlatonic raises a valid point about weight - I get knee twinges with advancing age. I'm currently hovering around the 80kg mark (down from a bloaty 88kg a few years ago, and am looking to lose similar again over the coming months; would be nice to get down to 70kg for a whole host of reasons, one being less stress on my knees.

Also, running shoes are pretty good at absorbing shock - do some boots have inherently better shock absorbing properties?

And I should also mention shock absorbing insoles.
