Hellooo from Kingston upon Thames
« on: 15:05:01, 09/06/19 »
Hello!  Thank you for adding me to this forum.  I am 54 and haven’t really done much in the way of serious walking, but am very interested in starting.  As I don’t have a car, I am reliant on trains and buses, so it would be lovely if I might be able to get some useful info in that respect.  Have a lovely Sunday!

Hello from Portsmouth. You might already do this but as a starting point I would suggest going to and bookmark/favourites Bing Maps to connect yourself to free Ordnance Survey maps. Then connect and bookmark/favourites to www.gps-routes.co.uk to find a walk. If you live in London then Horsham is a good start point, for a short or serious walk, the High Weald Landscape trail starts as soon as you step off the train.

Welcome from the Sussex coast    :)

I'm carfree and successfully use public transport to access my walks.  An advantage is that it facilitates linear walks.

This website has many walks accessed by public transport from London

HI from Lincolnshire.

Google the London Loop Walk which xan be achieved easily through a series of day walks.

Also a lot of The Thames path which runs through Kingston is a great very local starter.

Not all walks are in the wilderness.

My personal favourite was Staines to Windsir via Runnymede then on up the Great park to Ascot.
Too little, too late, too bad......

Welcome from Shetland. Jimbob is right, the Thames Walk is a fine walk and handy for you. As you'll know most of it is doable in day walks using public transport. I lived in SE London when I did it and took buses and trains daily up as far as Reading and then B&Bs with one night very stealthy camping. Train back from Kemble at the end.
