Title: Useful Internet sites
Post by: Rob Goes Walking on 02:51:52, 12/04/19
I've just found a bunch of useful bookmarks buried in this old thread here (http://www.walkingforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=32194.0) (as well as discovering ninthace used to live around here). Couple of really useful sites I use are:

http://www.nearby.org.uk/coord.cgi?f=conv (http://www.nearby.org.uk/coord.cgi?f=conv) (Co-ordinate convertor)
http://kmltools.appspot.com/gpx2kml (http://kmltools.appspot.com/gpx2kml) (Google Earth tool)
https://www.mountain-forecast.com/mountain_ranges (https://www.mountain-forecast.com/mountain_ranges) (Fell top weather forecast)
https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/ (https://en.parkopedia.co.uk/) (Parking space locations)

Here are ninthace's useful links:

http://go4awalk.com (http://go4awalk.com)
http://viewranger.com (http://viewranger.com)
http://haroldstreet.org.uk (http://haroldstreet.org.uk)
http://gpsies.com (http://gpsies.com)
http://walkingworld.com (http://walkingworld.com)
http://wikiloc.com (http://wikiloc.com)

Anyone got anymore useful walking related sites that aren't related to a specific area? I've got and would be interested in Lake District ones but I think if we start putting area specific stuff in here the thread might drown, depending on response. If it goes well I might try a different thread for Lake District sites in it's forum area.

It can sometimes be useful to look at National Trust pages for areas of open country where they sometimes show walk routes.  I looked at the page for Marley Common in West Sussex and a shortish route was shown which I expanded on OS Maps and made a very pleasant 6 mile route across hills, woods and common land.  Took our U3A rambling group on it and finished at an excellent pub.

There is also ifootpath which is a contributor led collection of countrywide routes through a monthly newsletter.

Oh I didn't realise, sorry!

Edit: But you can't post in it so my thread isn't in the wrong place. Thanks for pointing it out, plenty of links to look through. Plenty here that aren't in there too. Don't think Chris would object to this thread but he can always delete it if he does.

That's OK, Rob - I think that you have to PM Chris to get the link added.
