My second walk on my latest Lakeland trip saw me visit one of of the lower southern fells, Carron crag. I got the 505 service to Hawkshead where my walk started. The plan was to walk through Grizedale forest to Carron crag before continuing to
Coniston to get the bus back to Ambleside. It was a very windy day and I was glad I took the lower fell option. I couldn't recommend the first half of the walk to Carron crag but really good forest walks are hard to come by in my experience. When the summit of Carron crag was reached, the boredom turned to fascination as views opened up of the southern, central and even northern fells. The second half was better as I descended to Coniston. Total distance was approximately 12km.
