Title: The Long Mynd in February
Post by: maddog20201888 on 20:41:47, 10/02/20
Hi all,
I'm hoping to do a hike along the long mynd sometime towards the end of the week and as ive never been over this neck of the woods before I'm hoping for a little info/advice on the area such as the terrain this time of year and how good the paths are marked etc and any general info I might need doing the walk..ive planned a route from Church Stretton up to Ratlinghope and then looping back past Pole bank.
Any info would be gratefully received
 :) :) :)

To get a feel for your planned route, check it on the OS mapping website in Aerial View, or in Bing Satellite View or on GoogleEarth.  If you can see it clearly, the navigation should not be too difficult.  As an aside, you should not need the paths to be marked to find your way, especially in wild country.

It is a straightforward walk and paths are well defined. One route is on my website here http://www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Shropshire/LongMynd/Hiking%20Pages%20-%20Long%20Mynd.htm (http://www.happyhiker.co.uk/MyWalks/Shropshire/LongMynd/Hiking%20Pages%20-%20Long%20Mynd.htm)

As a rule I generally do all of what you've suggested and I'm pretty competent with a map and compass, I guess what I probably never really put across in my post was i was more looking for info off of someone who'd done this route recently and what conditions the ground under foot was like etc, but thanks for heads up anyway 👍

It’s a wonderful walking area.

I don’t usually advocate walking on public footpaths through golf course (I always feel vaguely uneasy of whizzing hard objects)...but the path through the one at Church Stretton you can use to get to Long Mynd has exceptional views.
