Thank you Ridge, but I did write "not till towards the end of the year".

All I can manage at the moment is a very slow plod around the block with walking poles, or to the nearby shops and back. 5 weeks after the op and I still have a lot of pain where I was cut open from ribs to the nether region and I have a bowel problem. Chemo starts in about 3 weeks, 2 weeks on and 1 week off, repeated 4 times, so that won't finish till near the end of October. A big worry is that I will have lowered immunity during this time.

I'll post nearer the time about which boots I'm thinking of buying.

Do the Merrells come in a wider fitting, or is it a standard size?

Cheers
It was a standard fitting, but they are wider than any of the other boots I tried (except Altbergs in a wide or extra wide fitting). I just checked and they are a UK13/US14 and my usual shoe size is 11 in a wide fitting. My Altbergs are 11W.

I've struggled to find boots with the right width for me but currently have some Lowa Irox which were comfortable straight out the box, are goretex and have a decent amount of stiffness to the sole whilst remaining light. I believe a lot of their range is also available in a wide fitting which may be of interest to you.

All the very best to you Fernman . I had surgery just over twelve months ago and at times last year I felt very low , but not now . I`m sure though you know very well , I would think , that it all takes time and hopefully it doesn`t sound to cliched but time is a fantastic healer .  O0
A night under silnylon. Doesn't have the same ring to it.

Thanks for all the replies  O0

I've tried the Salomons in a wide fitting, but too snug/tight still.

Tried some Moabs in an 8.5 as my old ones were labelled 8.5, but too big...bigger than my old 8.5's  ???

So, just received some Moabs in an 8, snug-ish, but I think they will 'bed-in' and be ok....fingers crossed!

Cheers all.
