Another valley walk for us this weekend, the forecast was for 40mph winds even at 500m. No thanks! It is getting annoying now, we want to get up into the snow but the weather has been dire this winter.
We parked on the east side of Catbells in one of the laybys and walked back toward Gutherscale to walk up the Newlands Valley.
Blencathra across Derwent Water
Hindscarth and Robinson
The wind even at this level was quite strong and very cold. We had lovely views which we hadn't expected and it was dry. Not bad at all.
Causey Pike, Barrow and Grisedale Pike
The car park at Gutherscale only had 2 cars in it. Typical! We didn't risk trying to park there this time after having to reverse such a long way last time.
Beefy and Squeaky on the footpath beyond Skelgill
Looking back at Skiddaw
Little Town below Hindscarth and Robinson
Ard Crags and Causey Pike
The wind had got stronger as we walked and near Little Town we were blasted by a very strong gust so we turned around and retraced our steps back to the car.
Skiddaw from the footpath to Skelgill
Note the weather front to the left. We were lucky we got back to the car and we were sitting having some lunch warm and dry inside when the front arrived where we were. Hail and sleet battered the car for 20 minutes. We'd enjoyed our walk but the enjoyment wasn't over. We stopped in Keswick to have coffee and cake in Mrs F's, delicious as always
We then had few turns round Fitz Park so Squeaky could have a run about and chase sticks. Our walk was: Layby on east side of Catbells - Gutherscale - Skelgill - Little Town and return. In total including Fitz Park 7.5 miles and 200m ascent.
On Sunday we walked in Gelt Woods, the wind was even stronger on Sunday. The weather looks a little better for next weekend thank goodness and it is north Northumberland bound for us
