Moving house - advice please
« on: 08:50:42, 10/12/18 »
Hello all,

We are currently living in a rental in Ilkley and really enjoy it, but we have just toured a house in Otley that we fell in love with.

Does anyone have any opinions on living and hiking in Otley?

Many thanks x

I am still trying to decide if this is a serious question or whether it should be directed to a forum dedicated to "Rightmove" activities, given that this is a Walking Forum.

As Ilkley to Otley is about a 5 miles distance (off the top of my head) and has the common geographical feature of being sited within the River Wharfe valley, it would be fairly safe to say that whatever walks attract you in Ilkley are within similar reach to Otley and vice versa.

Otherwise, my only observation of any merit would be that you are likely to get more house (bigger/better) for your money in Otley, but Ilkley is 'posher'.
Depends what you want & what your priorities are. Either way - beware being too low lying and floods ! ;D

If I'm not mistaken, what we're supposed to be interested in is housing in the Ilkley / Otley area.  Which then descends into a "keeping up with the Jones'" "my house is better than your house" "I live in a posher/more affluent/snooty area than you" black-catting exercise, possibly with a bit of reminiscing about the good old days when folks were decent.  Someone will no doubt post a bit of statistical evidence that doesn't really bear any relevance to anything.  At some point politics will be brought into the subject.

None of which has anything whatsoever to do with walking.

And we'll never hear from New Toy Orks Hire ever again because they've tonned thur 'ogg out seeing as they can't post a link to their house selling / rental company, making the grand total of one-post-wonders rise to 1,648.

Yep, that about covers all the bases  O0

Yes.  According to google maps, if you're in Otley, you can walk to Ilkley in 2 hours.   You pass 2 pubs at Burley in Wharfedale and these may delay you.

Then you can get the bus back.

Looks a nice idea and we'll await the TR.
