A Circular Walk from Peak Forest to Castleton
« on: 06:04:59, 28/03/18 »
Morning all,

Just finished writing up my latest blog, about a walk I did at the start of last week. It'd been snowing all weekend but Monday dawned with perfect blues skies and a brutally cold wind so I wrapped up warm and headed over to Peak Forest for a half-day walk. It's an area I've walked previously several times but all the snow transformed the landscape - and made it into a bit of an adventure sometimes too!

Some photos:

Snow drift in Peak Forest.

Stanage Edge on the horizon.

Almost seemed a shame to leave boot prints in this.

Winnats Pass and Mam Tor.

Image may contain: cloud, sky, mountain, outdoor, nature and water
Cave Dale.

As always, there's a full write-up and more photos here:

I enjoyed the read adalard. I know the area well, but I’ve never walked out of Peak Forest. It made for a challenging walk and excellent photos taken.

Thank you, that’s given me some inspiration to head that way soon  O0

Lovely pics especially the wind-blown snow in the sunken lane. I would have hated to leave boot prints too.
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

It's definitely worth considering, Jontea, it's pretty quiet on that side of the hills and we've found roadside parking in Peak Forest quite easily.

Brilliant adalard!  Great photos too 8)

Cheers, Sunnydale.  :)

I tried to keep to the edge of the bridleway and hopefully the wind covered my tracks after not too long. I think there was quite a pronounced thaw overnight though.

I hope you didn't hurt yourself in your tumble.

Cheers, April. No, I was fine - the snow made for a soft landing.  ;D

It's a great spot - I would have loved it as a kid, plenty for the imagination playing there.  :)

Cave Dale and the Winnats Pass are among my favourite spots in Derbyshire     :)

Thanks, Dovegirl. Same here - whether walking or in the car, Winnats Pass never fails to impress, no matter how many times I've passed through it.  :)  Love taking visiting friends or family there for the first time.
