There is free parking in a layby at Roehead.

You mean 54.605115, -2.808739 (NY4785623628)? 1.1 miles away from the steamer landing?

That's the spot - looks like parking for around 10 cars.

Thanks April and Ninthace, I might well rock up early and use that given it's on the route anyhow.

Thanks ninthace. I notice you haven't included the National Trust car park in Pooley Bridge in your points of interest though!

Maybe I'm mistaken and it's not National Trust?
There are a few free spaces near the Church in Martindale.

The free layby parking was full when I arrived at 9 am.

So where did you end up? The 3 quid slots facing the church?

Thems as is keen get fell in previous.  I have arrived at popular spots such as Seathwaite at 0700 and not been any way near the first.  Either there are people even keener oneself or last night's wild campers haven't come down yet.

The spot I posted GPS coordinates of. It's 3 quid, no idea if it's opposite a church. Almost finished my walk now.

Edit: Finished my walk. Yes, opposite the church.

Cheers Rob, that's where I'm planning to park tomorrow. How did the walk go? You had a nice day for it. :)

Went well thanks. I posted a summary in the overweight hikers thread. Took me less time than I expected too. I asked a guy who said hello to me and kept staring at me if he was you! Thought I'd see you pass me at some point but after a while realised you must be doing it tomorrow.

It was the first time I wished I'd packed gloves. My hands went part purple at one point but it was a short lived wind-chilly bit.

A few more sunny miles covered on the SWCP with mrsG today.  Finished at Harlyn bay.  Used to be like a second home to me in the winter, for 25 years. Not been back there since I stopped surfing, four years back. We were remniscing about the time our youngest, Edd, dropped a Jaffa cake in a rock pool, then tried to eat it.  So funny watching him spit it out.  He was five at the time.  Happy memories. :)

What a day, sun, hail, sun, cold wind and sun again.
Fortunately the hail only started as we were within striking distance of the cafe we were heading to for lunch.

Thinking of doing an overnight trip to the Ben Lawers group, for those that don't know these hills there on the north side of Loch Tay not far from the village of Killin.
Hopefully going over Beinn Ghlas and Ben Lawers before dropping down to Lochan nan Cat to camp. Coming back via Meall Garbh and An Stuc. Of course if you don't know the area that will mean nothing to you.
This will be my first outing since hurting my leg a month ago, so fingers crossed it is healing ok.

Well, the leg held up prity well. The ankle started grumbling towards the end that all. Decided not to camp as it was so windy on top I couldn't actually stand. Air temperature around -1 or 2 but wind-chill was very high. I don't mind the cold but wasn't sure I could find anywhere out of the wind.
