With travelling back home after Christmas we didn’t have a great deal of time for a walk on Saturday so we got the 400 bus up to Silloth on the coast in West Cumbria to walk up to Grune Point and back. We had sunny spells and the wind was light but crikey it was cold on the coast. It must have been very close to freezing all day.
We had lovely views over the Solway Firth as we walked along the Cumbria Coastal Path
Criffel over the Solway Firth at our start in Silloth

The refurbished Victorian pagoda where we had our lunch

We’d only been walking for about 25 minutes but it was 12.15 and we were hungry ;D
Criffel again now with more cloud over its top

On the promenade on the way to Skinburness. That is the Cote Lighthouse.

At Grune Point. We were a bit underwhelmed by it. The aerial shots I looked at before we went looked a bit more dramatic than it was on the ground.

This is either the World War 2 observation shelter at Grune Point or the Cumberland Machine-Gun Anti-Tank Rifle Emplacement depending on which web source you use.

The cairn on top was added as a memorial to four Silloth firemen who drowned while trying to rescue a wildfowler. Pity the shelter inside is used as a rubbish bin.
On the way back to Silloth

This is a pleasant 6 miler for those who don’t want too much excitement ;) We did enjoy the views of the Scottish coastline over the Solway Firth and after our last trip to the coast when it was all claggy and we saw nothing this walk more than made up for it. Thanks for the entertainment as usual Beefy O0

Nice pictures April of what looks like a lovely area :)
-
was a nice walk not the usual excitement, but pleasant enough all the same,
good job there was almost no wind, otherwise it would have been too cold to be outside, :coolsmiley:
-
Thanks for sharing the photos, April :) The views of the Solway Firth are atmospheric. I had a stroll along the promenade at Silloth this summer and thought it seemed a pleasant place
-
Thanks Rhino and Dovegirl O0

Hello, I am interested in using your images of Grune Point for apiece in the Times Weekend section called A Good Walk. Might this be possible? I would need images today or tomorrow. Many thanks!

That must be worth a few £ :)
-
Well it made an interesting TR and a change to the fells! I'd never have read it otherwise...

Are you April’s agent? ;D
BTW we get the Times at the weekend and there is an article in the Weekend section every Saturday entitled A Good Walk, so it’s probably legit.
-
It is legit!! I am trying to get lovely pics for the piece (it can be very hard!)
Thanks,
Rachel

Hello Rachel
I see photobucket isn't showing the photos on my pc at home but I could see them on my tablet earlier.
Have you actually seen the photos? :-\ ;D
They aren't that inspiring (in my opinion) because we are used to walking in the Lake District, much more scenic!
I have found the disc I saved the photos on and you are welcome to use them free of charge despite my agent trying to get money from you ;)
PM me an email address and I can email you the jpegs. If I can work out how to do it :-[

They show up on google image but not on this site so I have seen some but not all. But they looked lovely to me! I could not add my email address earlier but will try again or my number is 07748 180610 and I can text my email.
Yes I can't post my email as it is a banned external link!

If so I will email you the pics later.

Rachel

If you long press on the images on a tablet you can download them from here O0
-
Hello Rachel
The photos don't want to be emailed.
If you do have access to a tablet, the photos do appear properly and clever beefy knows how to copy them, see his previous post. If not, I will upload them to my flickr account and put them on here so you can copy them from a pc.
-
Here are the photos Rachel, you should be able to right click and copy them.
Not sure why the pagoda one has a bit cut off :-\

You are very welcome ::)

I saw that April has offered them FOC but it would be nice if they carried an acknowledgement when/if they are printed.
Also, perhaps you could lets us know if/when that happens?
-
I have had an email from Rachel thanking me and asking what name I want as a credit on the photo :)
I just need to send her a high res version of the photo. Fingers crossed ;D

That's really good - what a difference from the other thread about copyright - might even buy a copy of the paper!
-
You’re famous April! Your photo’s in the Times today! :D

I can see it now, a shot of April sitting outside the tent as the sun sets (CUT!) and then the helicopter flies in to take her to the 4 star hotel for the night.
She may still let you carry her wine Beefy.

:o
I would rather be dead in a ditch. Oh hang on, better not use that line :D
Thanks Rural Roamer and Jac. Thanks to you too Ridge. I think ;)
I am a bit bemused that anyone would choose this walk. We didn't find the walk itself very inspiring but Silloth is a nice seaside town to visit for those who like more than just a walk.
Here is a link to the article with my pic shown but you have to subscribe the read all the words.
