Cruach Ardrain from Crianlarich
« on: 20:09:08, 15/06/19 »
Last week-end saw me take in one of the Crianlarich Munros, Cruach Ardrain. This was a day-breaker walk starting at 5am because I was concerned that the weather would deteriorate in the afternoon. Starting from the hotel, I picked up good forest tracks until I entered the forest. Thereafter I endured very marshy terrain until I found a stile out of the forest into the field-like open hillside. Turning left I headed up the broad ridge until I came to the bealach. The final stretch was very steep but I gained the summit at 8.15am. The visibility was very good but no sunshine. My descent route was pretty much the reverse of the ascent. I finished at 11am and was exhausted; this was one of the hardest walks I've ever done. To be honest, while it was nice to do something different, Cruach Ardrain isn't a walk which I'd be in a hurry to do again. It wouldn't fall into memorable epic walks IMHO. In the afternoon, the rain stayed of until 5pm so I got the tarbet ferry across loch lomond.

Could those hills be the Cobbler (Ben Arthur)?

Possibly, Cobbler, Narnian and Vane. I'm wondering where Beinn Ime was and the brack? :)  if it is them.

Sounds like a good way to spend half a day. Shame that the weather was a bit hazy, but good views nonetheless.

Those peaks to the far left are almost certainly the Arrochar Alps. Beinn Ime is the highest peak. The Brack is lower and will be hidden.

Just to the left of Ben Lui group you can see Ben Cruachan in the distance, a fine, complex hill.

@ richardh1905, thanks for clarifying. I'm hoping to climb Beinn Ime next year :)
@ April, thanks for replying. Ideally I would have liked a bit more sunshine but no rain is always a bonus. Two days before I travelled I thought that I was going to get heavy rain but the forecast changed for the better at the last minute :)  Imagine you are on Dodd in the Lake district looking across to the Coledale fells and look at the 4th photo. Do you see similarities between Barrow, Causey Pike, OUterside, Eel crag and Grisedale Pike? I see similar views :)

Lovely TR henry & some great photos.
Considering the recent weather I think you did well to have those views (regardless of the haze)  O0
