Gear upkeep (Tech Wash)
« on: 21:12:42, 02/02/19 »
I went out today in my Keela Munro, first time I have used it since washing it in Nikwax tech wash.
I found last time I wore it getting rather cold in in about 48-52F. Though today I took it out and it was much lower temperatures probably about 36-38F and I wasn't cold at all (though was walking at fair pace),  the only conclusion I have that the membrane clogging up and wasn't working effectively, does seem like a new jacket now, so upkeep is important!

Ive never used any synthetic washes for my clothing.
Ive always washed my gear on a cool wash cycle, and never use washing powder or detergent.
Some of my gear is getting pretty old, especially two items of Buffalo gear, that are now well over their thirtieth anniversary, and apart from discolouration, have a lot of life left in them.

Just good old water on a cool temperature, that's all is required.

Modern day detergents are more likely to break down the fabric over extended use, as some of them are pretty powerful if over used.

Indeed - I've only ever used water to wash waterproofs.
