My first introduction to Singapore was while I was on the Hong Kong guard ship.  That was back in the days when Bugis Street was an "educational experience" for a young gentleman such as myself.  I also got thrown out of the Singapore Hilton, which remains to this day the best place I have ever been thrown out of.  The accommodation wasn't great but it was at least free and it went up and down with the tide.

Ah yes Bugis street.  The one place in Singapore you were told not to go. So the first place you visit. LoL

Have to say the Singapore of 1986 was a wonderful place.  Especially as I had my push bike on board, so could get about.  :)
