General Walking Discussion / Re: A warning to dog lovers

That counts me out then, as im not a dog lover, far from it.

Ive a gorgeous scar, down my left arm, where a large Alsatian went for me back in 1971.
Totally unprovoked, just rushed out from a house in Cyncoed in Cardiff, and started biting me, not a pleasant experience, resulting in two nights in the Heath hospital.

Since then, four other dogs have had a go, so im not booking my tickets to next years Crufts show.

Hokas, are the shoe of choice, for supreme comfort and foot cushioning.

Im not saying any of us will be turned into an Ultra runner, but just about any of the big races, involving very long distances, the majority of runners of all abilities, are using Hoka shoes, simply down to the maximum cushioning they offer.

Some come in a wide foot option, but their incredibly comfortable to wear, and the outer sole, is designed for maximum cushioning, which is what long distance runners need

Like any running shoe, their no longer a cheap purchase, but for maximum foot support, cushioning and comfort, especially over the longer distance, Hoka seem to be the shoe of choice.

I replaced the guys on my tent with this 2mm Dyneema:

I chose black.

Edited to add that Hilleberg  guy line runners work a treat on the 2mm Dyneema

The breaking strain of the 2mm cord that I bought from Decathlon is 75kg - I'm sure that your tent peg would come out long before that!

Edit - actually 80kg for this cord - Climbing and Mountaineering Cordelette 2 mm x 10 m - Blue SIMOND | Decathlon

I bought my 2mm cord, a dark colour, from Alpkit, but it was some time ago. I too, do not want reflective cord on my tent, I just have one pound coin sized reflector stuck to my tent, more than enough.

I'm sure 2mm would be fine but why not just buy some green 4mm and then you know it will work?

Hi,

Am looking for advice as to suitable para cord to use for guy lines/tie out points on a tarp

Would 2mm be ok, as opposed to my current 4mm?

Main reason to change is to go to green colour, from current bright yellow - just trying to be a bit more stealthy!

Cheers

Bleak, cold and grand - a fine location and pics  O0

We never did get to Glen Tilt, our old planned routes are abandoned now - maybe just as well as it seems far too popular for us now.

Day 6: Lauragh - Kenmare
On this last day, we get a carpool to avoid a large stretch of tarmac. This puts us at the foot of Knockagarrane Mountain. On the descent, I make an ungainly smack. Then it's between some lakes, past the Uragh Stone Circle and overlooking a (quasi completely dried-up) waterfall. We take one last climb and a technical descent, then a little later it's on a tarmac road to our final destination, Kenmare.
