Can't beat a KFC can you? O0

Quite common in my neck of the woods, also the green woodpecker.
-
The first time I ever saw one, I was in a customer's house repairing a tumble dryer.
The office phoned me, and in the middle of the call I looked out of the window and exclaimed excitedly, "Ooh there's a great spotted woodpecker in a tree outside, I've never seen one before!"
The quizzical response from the girl on the other end of the phone was, "Where are you?"
"In the customer's bedroom," I replied, which was greeted with roars of laughter. "No, seriously, that's where her tumble dryer is, honestly."
But it was too late, my already-tarnished reputation went down another notch.

Nice photos of your first Woody! 8)

I'll see your Woody and raise you an Osprey! Yes they are back at Rutland Water and one flew over me when I was walking the fields at the back of our house about 1pm today.

Looks like a male Greater Spotted Woodpecker. We don’t often see them in the garden now. We stopped feeding the birds, as this was just indirectly feeding the cats. We have at least two in the woods behind us and hear them drumming in the morning. We can also hear at least two tawny owls claiming their territories.
That is good shooting capturing a GSW. They have eyes in the back of their head and seem to be able to detect movement, even when we are indoors (and the bird isn’t).

Great shots of the woodpecker. It was nice to see him :)

I've never seen one myself - must have been quite a feeling not just to see one but to get those photos too. Brilliant! :) O0

Thanks everyone for the comments :)
@fernman. ;D
You'll have to go down a few more notches to get to plebs level :D
@Mike and adalard
Thanks, it was a quick few shots I took, some of the pics were blurred, I even got a video clip but it's not very good because I had to be quick would you like to see it?
@April it was nice, thanks for spotting him O0

I hear these in the mornings when I'm walking the dogs but I've never seen one - nice piccies.
-
I get one on my nuts about once a year.
Aw, come on, someone was going to say it sooner or later :o
-
I also get these occasionally, ring-necked parakeets. My wife took this picture through the kitchen window.
They're very common around parts of outer London, though not so much in my area, but they're quite spectacular when a small group of them flies quickly overhead, squawking as they go.

They've even reached Devon - resident in both Exmouth and Plymouth. Regular DFLs
(devonspeak for down-from-Londoners. Similar to Cornish 'grockles')

Great pics of the GSW, Beefy

Wonderful to see a real one and especially so when you think how 'shy' they are. Brilliant photos considering you hadn't been sat in a hide for several weeks O0
I sometimes see a Kingfisher close to home, but I doubt I could capture it on 'film'. You literally see a flash of blue and .... it's gone ! I always fanny about trying to get a second look or guessing where it could be, but never any joy.

Thank you :)
