12 miles around Malham
« on: 07:49:31, 25/02/08 »
I went to Malham for the first time yesterday with 2 mates from Wakefield.

Approaching Janet's foss

Curiously, there were 3 or 4 trees all studded with coins...is this some sort of walkers superstition?

The delightful waterfall of Janet's Foss

Approaching Goredale Scar

The gorge shows itself

From the top of the first falls

In the upper reaches of the scar....a beautiful spot for lunch!

Looking up....

...and down....

...and finally, climbing out of a big hole in the ground!

Good paths take one straight over the moor to Malham Tarn...thankfully tranquil due to the weather!

....and the wave crashes in!

We then walked back to Goredale Scar to play about a bit with the camera

The approach to Malham cove

...and one off the top

One of my partners in crime looking out across the cove

There were a good few climbers on the face

This little Wren tested out the zoom on the camera

Me and my son did this walk when he was about 8 years old, but we started at the tarn and walked down to Malham for ice cream and stuff, and then walked back up by Gordale Scar..... (tight a****d people don't like paying car parking fees!  and anyway, you can't buy tea and cakes at Malham Tarn) That must have been 17 years ago - so your pics brought back a few memories..
Strange thing to do with the coins, though...Ive not seen that before....
Thanks for the pics.
Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles

Excellent pictures.

The coin thing is somethings I've seen on a few occasions, absolutely no idea why. First time I saw it was at Dovedale.

These boots were made for walking so that's just what I'll do. After I've re-proofed them of course...
