I'm fairly happy with my mileage total for last year, considering everything that happened along the way!
 
I really have to step up a gear this year and increase by 150 miles if I'm going to reach my target of 1,000.

Had the niggle constantly in the back of my mind "how many have i done, how many should this walk be to add x to the total, i HAVE to cover this many miles on this walk". Became a chore. I'd much rather be out walking than working!

Agreed! One year we "planned" to do 1000 miles but very soon it became a chore and, rather than acting as an incentive, it became a chore. So we abandoned the idea and just tried to enjoy the walking, and - Hey Presto! - the enjoyment returned! 
 
Goals can be good things, but they shouldn't detract from the enjoyment. After all, it should be about quality rather than quantity!

I've never managed to keep accurate milage records (maybe because I usually work in kilometres anyway) but my 2011 totals are:

50 x new hills
111 x new trigs
Plus a fair few revists.

I'm quite pleased with my progress, given an uncertain work situation and an ongoing postgrad. But I'm determined to get out more this year, concentrating mainly on Dewey Donalds.

Later: I've reset Anquet to work in Miles & Feet (should I be walking in tweed and hobnailed boots too?) so I'll give the Mileage & Total Ascent Log a try this year.
