Back to the topic; I like to walk fairly quickly but I am happy to stop and wait as necessary (I would rather wait at the top of a hill than walk up slowly). I can comfortably do about 14 miles in a day, maybe more. ... Have't got much experience of steep hills as they are all fairly tame in this area.
[/quote]I got a proper shock on the hills 3 weeks ago, I thought I was match fit. Turns out I was only fit to blow out a match  ;) The big hills are very different to walking on the flat (doh!!!)

I know I ve messed up badly on the quote thingy this time but I can't modify it  :( it keeps on putting the last one in after my name even though I take it out when I modify it... censored-ing computers, you wouldnt think I knew how to record 24 tracks of music on mine, they re not natural are they  :(

I'm finding this one really hard to answer.   because.  It depends.

Sometimes I feel like legging it and I will go as fast as I can to get up somewhere.

Other times I feel like a snail and I will need to eat and eat and eat and then I might be able to leggit if I am lucky.

Other times I might go to a tarn and sit and eat and sleep and then leggit.

I go with how I feel that day.  I can't do long distances.

But.

Show me a fell with a path and if I can, I will have a go.

I'm sorry Dave, I don't think I'm anywhere... I am medium and also like to sit and absorb and take in the views.

I don't care how slow a walk is.  Because I can sit and sit and look all  day... so going slow is okay.... as well as legging it sometimes.

I want to be as fast as I was when I was 18.  That's why I can't answer it.
but I told myself today that for Lent I would give up self-criticism.

sorry  :)

I'll try again...

here's a quick answer... I'm middling and like to do around 7 or 8 miles.

My current fitness level is 2 points short of where i'd like it.

I think i could manage 20 miles in the lakes in this sort of daylight time and 30-50 somewhere a bit flatter.

I am trying very very hard to slow down and have been forcing myself to the back of the groups at times throughout the day.

im also a stone heavier than i want to be  >:(
