Hi, I'm Ygerna, I found this forum whilst tying to research my first wild camp ever (at 48!, never too old, right?)
I'm also new to walking in general. I mean, I can walk, but the walking as a pastime aspect is new to me.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and learning from your collective experience.

Welcome Ygerna, I am new to this like yourself and just a year younger, so I wouldn't worry about that number :D
Anyway enjoy your time here, there are some super helpful members in this forum too.
Where are you based?

Hi Nick,
I'm in Surrey, near Leatherhead. What about you?
As well as planning the wild camp on Dartmoor I have now come up with a cunning plan to try and raise some funds for the local scout troop, they need a new hut. I'm thinking of walking the Surrey section of The Greensand Way!
I figure I've got a year to build my stamina.... :o

I'm still getting to learn my way around the site but it seems to be very supportive and a great source of advice, information and tips.

I am from Benfleet in Essex, very close to the Hadleigh park where the Olympic Mountain Bike track is. My local training ground...
Good on you with helping the scouts 8) . I raised money in the past for Cancer Research with a beachwear calendar and a cycling ride.

a beachwear calendar
Beachwear? Were you the model?
Do I want to know..? :D

No I had the best job of being the photographer :D

Somehow, I'm disappointed....
However, thank you for the support regarding the scouts. I'm not sure how I got suckered into helping with Cubs/Scouts/Explorers but I really enjoy it. It's scouting that's given me the opportunity to try wild camping, surfing, walking and a vast array of other outdoor activities I would never have even dreamed of and the kids themselves are incredible people that I learn from too!

;D
I think the cubs/scouts/brownies etc are great clubs for children. Like you say, it's opened your eyes to some great outdoor activities that you may have missed out on otherwise.
