We had a 6 mile walk today from the pretty little Somerset City of Wells up through the grounds and woodland pathway belonging to Milton Lodge, to the Mendip Mast on Penn Hill.

The rain stayed away, just, although what could have been splendid views of the city and surrounding countryside, was completely shrouded in grey cloud for most of the afternoon.

We saw some horned sheep, who refused to look at the camera - obviously they thought they were showing their best side.

Heading back down we used some lovely old steps

and walking back towards the city you could just about make out  the Cathedral….

…and St Cuthberts Church.

This was a good walk, on easy paths and farmland with just a few stiles, but I think we will go back again on a sunny clear day to get the best of the views.

Wells is a lovely place to visit whether you are walking or siteseeing or just going to the market (wed/Sat). We have lived in this area for about 25 years and we still like to go there, and always take any visitors fora look.

I used to visit Wells quite regular when I lived in Yeovil the Mendips became a good short days walking. I really love a walk through the oldest residential street - Vicars close its really nice as you walk towards the cathedral.

'Fraid we've always called it the Vicars back passage :-[ (Mr A used to work at the Cathedral School there and we had friends who lived in the close)
