I have a budget of around £100 and want some lightweight goretex boots. Any recommendations?

In all honesty £100 does not buy you much in the way of a quality boot in the current market these days.

Not a personal recommendation but given your £100 budget these might be worth checking out for suitability, build quality and fit etc.

A further 5% cashback is available via TopCashback https://www.topcashback.co.uk/outdoorgear-uk/

From memory gunwharfman has bought the Berghaus Supalite II boots on a couple of occasions in the past but I'm sure you will find plenty of other independant reviews and YouTube videos for them online.

My own recommendation would be for you to save a bit more money and increase your budget in order to buy better quality boots. As I'm sure you've already found out to your cost with boots generally if you buy cheap you end up buying twice or more!

£135 would currently allow you to be able buy something like these https://www.greavessports.com/search/altberg-fremington

If most of your walking is on low level paths and tracks you could do a lot worse than have a look at the Altberg Defender military boot available via eBay. Brand new in box examples go for around £50-£75 or less depending on size with used examples selling for less. https://www.altberg.co.uk/product/mens-defender-combat-boot-mod-brown-uk-military-issue-boot/

EDIT: A couple more options that may also be worth adding to your list to check out:

Oboz Sawtooth Mid BDRY boots @ £60 https://www.magic-mountain.co.uk/collections/oboz-2/products/ob-20701-sawtooth-mid-bdry (I own both the Oboz Sawtooth Mid BDRY boots and the Oboz Sawtooth Low BDRY shoes and can recommend both).

Lowa Renegade GTX Mid from ~£120 https://www.polimil.co.uk/footwear/military-boots/lowa-renegade-gtx-mid-boot-espresso-brown.html

I have some Merrill Moab 2 boots. These have been comfortable walking for 10 miles or so in the local hills. There are various versions of these, including boots and shoes. These can be found around your budegt or cheaper.  For tougher conditions I have some new Altberg Tetheras, but have yet to use these in anger.

In both cases, I bought because I could get a large size with a wide fitting. I couldn’t find any other lightweight boot that would fit.

Everything about it is entirely personal and it's very difficult for walkers to find good footwear for themselves, let alone anyone else.
That said, after a few years of use, I can verify the excellent performance of the Merrell Moabs - if they suit your foot shape. British feet generally tend to be quite wide at the front and the Moabs have enough width to move your toes around, unlike many continental brands that tend to be narrow.
They are pretty lightweight too, I have both the shoes and mid-cut versions. If I expect very wet and boggy conditions I'll reluctantly wear the mids, but for most backpacks I wear the shoes. Outside full winter conditions, the Moabs are all we need for anything in the UK.

The flex is just right and, very important if walking long daily distances, the cushioning is a lot better than most. For instance last year I walked the Kintyre Way, 82 miles in four days with some road walking and a lot of hard tracks, and the cushioning was very good indeed, my feet felt fine at the end with no trace of footsoreness.

Edit: typo only.

I bought a pair of 'cheap' boots (about £40) from Decathlon last year and I think they are very good, solid build and very comfortable, the lacing and lugs are good as well. I walked two weeks in the Pyrenees with them, they are only waterproof up to a point, but they do dry quickly. If you even consider the idea, check the sizing, I'm a 7, I had to buy 8, with my Sorbothane inserts in I even considered buying a 9, it was only because I decided to wear thin socks and took a chance on how much the boots would stretch that I didn't.

I don't know if you are like me but I always have inserts in my boots, if you use them take them with you and your normal socks to try on.

As regards the Berghaus leather Superlites, I've had three pairs and would be quite happy to buy a pair again. They are waterproof (my last pair let me down after two years use, the previous two just wore out) but like so many boot soles these days (my Decathlon ones are better) I learned to be careful when crossing wet smooth rocks, especially with moss on them.

Once you find the boots you want, spend an hour online checking the prices - I bet you will save yourself a tenner off your budget  O0

I ended up buying some from Mountain Warehouse as I had a 20% off voucher as a temporary solution for the Summer. £35 and they are excellent so far, very light and waterproof (I've dipped my whole foot in several streams and puddles). I was a bit wary as some boots in the past say they are waterproof and are not.

I plan to invest in some goretex ready for next Winter though. So thanks for the suggestions.
