We parked in the layby at Roehead above Pooley Bridge. More Wainwrights for Squeaky, Arthurs Pike and Bonscale Pike today.  We like having a car. It took 32 minutes to get here :)

Autumn colours as we left Roehead

On the way up Arthurs Pike

It had started raining but it didn't last long and wasn't that heavy.

Ullswater seen from the ascent

We kept to the right hand side path by White Knott and Whinny Crag. The wind was right in our faces though but at least it had stopped raining.

Looking back to Pooley Bridge

Another Ullswater view

A look back toward Pooley Bridge

On Arthur's Pike summit

On Bonscale Pike summit

We'd stopped for lunch at Swarth Beck before we went on the summit. It started raining and the clag descended so we'd deployed the storm shelter to keep dry. It was pelting down here and being blown right in our faces.

On the way back down to Roehead, Penrith seen lit up by the sun in the distance

We'd dropped down out of the clag and the rain stopped too.

Little Mell Fell from the way down

The stone circle, The Cockpit?

I have never been able to get a shot of it without anyone on until now. It nearly didn't happen this time either despite there being few people about all day. A woman and her dog raced past us just as I lifted my camera to take a shot of the stones. She was oblivious to this, she walked into shot and sat on one of the stones to do something with her wellies. A bit flabbergasted, I stood patiently with camera in hand until she moved after about 5 minutes. It was a surreal finish to the walk, we couldn't believe the woman's timing  ::)

Our walk was Roehead - White Knott - Whinny Crag - Arthurs Pike - Swarth Beck - Bonscale Pike - Barton Fell path - The Cockpit - Roehead 7.75 miles with 450m ascent

Lovely pics, you were unlucky not to have the stones to yourselves on such a claggy day.

Made the most of the weather again there, April.

I walked to the stones at dawn a few years ago, still got company.  Stone circle slugs.

Thanks Ridge and pdstsp  :)

What was most irritating about this time was I'd seen there were no people at the stone circle when we were ten minutes away, at last I thought! We hadn't reckoned on Zola Budd racing past us to photobomb them  :)

I don't think it is a great photo of the stone circle but it is the only one I've taken with no people there  :)

More lovely autumn colours, and a great shot looking down upon Ullswater.

I'm struggling to keep up with all your TRs!

Unpacking over a hundred boxes taking priority over walking right now, although we did manage a quick trip up a cloud covered Ingleborough last weekend. And the dog walking around Grange is great.

It's a difficult one to get a dramatic picture of because the stones are so little - but a wonderful place to sit, particularly when there's no-one there I imagine.

Mrs pdstsp is doing a part time PhD on Bronze age gubbins (as she doesn't call it), so we often walk into sites she is interested in, and I photograph them for her, but they rarely make great shots, unless there's a Dartmoor pony or some other added interest.

I have to agree with Richardh about keeping up with all your trip reports!  Although I've not got the excuse of moving house  :-[

EH? WHAT TIME IS IT?

11th November!

the dog walking around Grange is great.

Thanks Richard, is that Grange over Sands or Grange in Borrowdale? I assume GOS, you said you were moving to the south of the county.

It's a difficult one to get a dramatic picture of because the stones are so little

They are small but size isn't everything  ;)

She is now on 85  :) She did 6 more at the weekend just gone.

I bet Squeaky enjoys the comfort of a car too especially after a wild wet wainwright bagging :)
So many paths yet to walk, so little time left

Jac you would have a laugh at her. She can't wait to get out of the car when we arrive somewhere. Then she can't wait to get back in when the walk has finished  :)
