Hi everyone
« on: 22:34:10, 31/01/21 »
Hi, I'm Alex, (that's the first a in ayjay, a long story that I won't bore you with now). I don't walk as far or as fast as I used to, but I'm getting on a bit now is my excuse.

I do get out walking just about every afternoon: I mostly bimble around the New Forest with a camera looking for Dragonflies and Butterflies in the warmer months and anything else interesting when it's colder like now. I'll be happy to share some of those if anyone is interested, but be warned, I have thousands.

My wife is no longer able to walk at all due to MS (which does severely curtail my time available to walk and also where I'm able to go). She always loved to walk but no longer likes to go out at all, (I couldn't tell you why, but I think it upsets her that she can't do the things that she used to do so she'd rather sit at home and vegetate).

I do have a specific question which I'll get to on the appropriate section, probably tomorrow now.

Welcome from Devon.

Ancestors hailed from Christchurch and the New Forest area.
When living in Southampton, years ago, every weekend was spent in the forest, a lovely area. No specialist knowledge but very happy to see pics of butterflies, dragons and damsels.
I am sorry to hear that your wife finds it too upsetting go out with limited mobility. Modern mobility vehicles are so amazing. A very dear friend with MS has made good use of hers - difficulty is keeping up with her! Devon is very hilly whereas he New Forest, with it's generally level terrain and gravelly tracks, would seem ideal.
My great grandfather was the captain of the Christchurch bicycle club in 1876 and they cycled on their  'high wheelers', (penny farthings) all over the area before roads were tarmacked.
I do hope she may yet find the motivation to use wheels enjoy being out in the forest once more.

She's had a very capable TGA Breeze Midi 4 since 2015,  but it just gets used less and less, I'm pretty sure she didn't use it at all last year, although I did get her out a couple of times in her power-chair, I think the TGA  was used twice in 2019, and just three times in 2018, and a fair bit more prior to that, but now it sits in the conservatory unloved. She needs counseling, (she's she's waiting for a cure), but I've been thwarted at every attempt to attain it for her by medical professionals who won't listen to my opinion and will only talk to her, apparently it's OK to read or watch TV and do nowt else.

Thanks for all the welcomes.

Yes, you do but I can't remember how many.

I do hope that with the onset of Spring your wife may find the motivation to venture out again. But I guess it will have to be her own decision. Hard for both of you.

I've posted some now using a different browser, I think my usual browser is blocking the window for the link.
