A Good Year For Wild Apples
« on: 14:24:57, 07/04/19 »

No - not Crab Apples, proper wild eating apples.

For several of my circular walks I start by going across an old RAF Airfield which was home to Lancaster's - (its only half-a-mile from home) & it gives me several options of 4 -10 miles circuits so ideal for a couple of hours bimbling.
The main runway is about 1 mile long and a circuit of the perimeter track is about 5 miles.

There are many apple trees around the perimeter track and, at the ends of the Runways Local story is that the Lancaster crew would throw their apple cores out of the window whilst waiting for their turn to take off for the night's sortie.
Whatever the story there are loads of 'wild' very nice eating apple trees. I must have had 100s of lbs last year.

I go past them a couple or three times a week and the blossom just gets heavier and heavier.

It looks as if this year will be another bumper-crop.

What did you do with so many apples? Juice them? Give them away?

Crikey that's a lot of horses. I figured you had money but I might have underestimated just how much. I could only afford 20 on my state benefits  ;D

Actually, only 1 horse,  then 11 ponies and 9 foals.
Currently down to about a dozen, but more foals expected next month.

Not a cider fan myself, don't like the taste. The fruity ciders they've brought out now made by Rekorderlig and Kopparberg are nice enough. Don't know how they fare on the stomach cramping side though, not a problem I have.
