Which long distance walk
« on: 17:32:55, 14/01/20 »
Hello

I'd like to do a long distance walk this year, but I'm struggling for find which one to do. I'm looking for something not too challenging, but still with great views. I've looked at the Brecons way, but it seems to be quite hard!  I've already done (bits of) Hadrian's wall, which was good, so I'm sure there are other options that would tick the boxes.

Thank you in advance

You could look at the Cumbria Way or the Dales High Way. Both go through lovely country but neither are too demanding.

You don't mention time available. Peddlers way/Norfolk Coast path... The motorway that is C2C, the ridgeway,... Maybe advise on how many days you have free.

The Cotswold Way or South Downs Way, both with good views and not over taxing
It's all uphill from here.

How about the Cleveland Way. A nice mixture of moorland and coastal walking, splendid views and not overly strenuous terrain.

The Yorkshire Wolds Way is a good non-challenging walk, much better than I thought it would be - only added it on to the Cleveland Way to make it a reasonable length at the time.  Gentle hills rather than steep mountainous climbs.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I don't know many of those, so I'll look them up.

To answer the question above, maybe around 4-5 days but could do more.

A nice 4 day walk is the Herriot Way in the Yorkshire Dales. It's a circle taking in Aysgarth, Hawes, Keld and Reeth, and has a nice mix of scenery

Thank you. Dales High Way and Herriot Way look good, so maybe one of those!

Dales High Way is an excellent choice Vincent. I walked this a couple of years ago and found it not too difficult, apart from the ascent, and the start of the descent of Ingleborough toward Chapel-le-Dale.

I've also looked at the Herriot Way, which looks very appealing, but haven't got around to doing it yet. Definitely one for the future for me.

The Herriot Way looks an interesting one. My wife has been suggesting C2C but then thought too hard for her, then Hadrian's Way (but I have it can be a bit boring). Problem is that she struggles with climbing but it has always been my challenge.

Yes Herriot Way looks good too. Is Easter to early for it?

What about the West Highland way?  It doesn't seem to be too difficult.

West Highland Way is nice and not so tough.

I enjoyed the South Downs Way too, though I did it mostly on a bike.

Pembrokeshire coast path could also be an option, but I have only done day hikes there.

I wouldn't underestimate this one, easy navigation but "up and down" in places!

Yes I agree! It's quite tiring with all the small but sometimes steep ups and downs. It's great though, especially in August when seals have babies on the secluded beaches and coves beneath you.
