For all you forumites who like to watch dots for hours on end, the summer version of the Spine race starts tomorrow morning.
http://live.opentracking.co.uk/spinefusion19/
It's never going to live up to what we saw in the winter spine, and lacks the jeopardy of the winter weather, but still worth a watch I reckon.
-
And the Flare is here, not sure why they've been split :-\
http://live.opentracking.co.uk/spineflare19/
-
And they're off ... :)
This link http://live.opentracking.co.uk/spinefusion19/ despite it's name is now showing both Fusion and Flare O0
-
Thanks for the links, folks.
Looks as if less people take part in the summer events. Or is that just my impression?
-
Nope, definitely less O0
-
Anyone dot watching? The update rate seems way slower than for the Spine and Challenger, or am I wrong?
-
Looks like superwoman part 2. Sabrina Verjee has taken the lead near the Packhorse Inn,around the fifty mile point.
-
Nip and Tuck with Cees van der Land
-
Good grief - Sabrina and Cees are past Pen-y-Ghent already!
..as are half a dozen others.

No, the updating is erratic to say the least. Sabrina's last update was 0859 - 43 minutes ago. But if you click on her symbol and view the tracking info, there is a dot at 0917, ahead of her marker. Cees is apparently ahead, but I suspect that Sabrina is much further on than where she is shown, and still has the lead.
-
Yes it is very erratic. I've found if I refresh the screen it (usually) kicks in an update.
Looks like Sabrina has opened up a small lead now, having just reached Hawes. Also, looks like we have a clear winner of the Flare race in Benjamin Tyas. Well done that man.
-
Looks like a few more male egos are going to be dented.Appears Sabrina Verjee hasn't stopped at Hawes and is now near Thwaite with a decent lead.Last year's male winner was 3 days 6 hours,an exceptional time, and if she keeps going at this pace she might just finish inside it.Personally I feel these summer runners don't get the credit they deserve for these performances. The PW can be a beast at anytime of the year and in 2016 the winter Spine conditions were kinder than most summers.
-
Indeed. The heat can be more of a problem than the cold.
Cees van der Land, who led at one stage, appears to have dropped off the radar completely - I wonder where he is?

He's way back near Ribblehead, but his dot has a "no signal" symbol, as do many others, so it's difficult to see the big picture.
They obviously have a glitch in the tracking system.

Agree, worst day ever on the hills for me was a day in June 2012 when on the Pennine Way, nearly succumbed to hypothermia :(

He is at Tan Hill with Sabrina Verjee.
-
Yes, he's probably been neck and neck with Sabrina all the time.
He appears to have dropped behind a bit now though, his route trace suggests some kind of navigational problem at the head of High Cup Nick. He's on his way down now, but Sabrina has just passed through Dufton without stopping, a 2 mile lead.
-
Looks like Sabrina Verjee is out on her own as Cees van der Land is down as retiring at Alston.Looks like she has gone a bit off route near Wain Rigg, perhaps due to bogs?
-
Only a bit though, and that area is very tricky to nav O0
-
I haven't had time to watch any of the dots as yet :(
Nice to see a woman in the lead. Again O0
-
She's still there in the lead. I came into this one rather late, has she actually stopped and slept yet?

I think that she caught a few hours at the checkpoint just west of Middleton in Teesdale.
-
Shame that Cees van der Land had to retire - he was neck and neck with Sabrina. Barring some kind of disaster, she has the race in the bag now.

She appears to have had a more serious navigational issue just before arriving at Bellingham.

Sabrina Verjee is now on on the Cheviots. Its a fine performance and she is going to be close to Jasmine Paris's time in the winter race.

A magnificent performance - she's on the western slopes of the Cheviot itself, and she could beat Jasmine's time.

Jasmin's time was 3 days 10 hours? If she wants to beat that she is going to have to sprint the last three miles!
-
Jasmin Paris's time was 3 days, 11 hours and 12 minutes. So, she has 7:12pm to aim for, which is now a possibility as she didn't appear to stop at the last refuge hut.
-
She's over the Schil so should make it by 7.12 O0
-
Meanwhile, down on "the undercard", Esteban Diaz Castaneda looks like he has the men's race sewn up...…………..unless he "does a Eugeni" :o
-
I see Sabrina has just finished O0
Wow, so it would seem she has ran faster than Jasmin Paris :o
LOL @ "does a Eugeni"
-
Now we need someone to set up a head to head between Jasmin and Sabrina in either mid spring or mid Autumn to equalise temperatures and daylight hours between them.
:D
My bet would be on a woman winning that one as well.
Fantastic race Sabrina. Well done, great bit of running.

Aye well done Sabrina :)
-
A superb effort. O0

Sabrina's official time 3 days 10 hours 19 minutes 7 seconds! (82 hrs 19min 7 secs). At the finish she was saying that she went through some very trying times but discovered that she could push through them and come out feeling good again. She sounded quite surprised by that so who knows what she is capable of now that she knows.
