Those shots are just beautiful, Hedgetrimmer - it's like the meeting of autumn and winter. Great stuff!  O0 O0

I really like this shot of the Rowan Tree, inspired. Many could have walked by without seeing its potential.

Thanks for the kind comments folks  :)
That was my first time exploring Ennerdale; it certainly won't be the last! I had a feeling it would be a good place to catch autumn, with the map showing the juxtaposition of the lake, mountains and extensive woodland. Next time, I hope to get further along. According to an information board at the car park, it's 6.5 miles around the lake. I guess another 3 miles to get to the head of the valley, which I'd like to do. Should have set off earlier!  ::)

You couldn't help but have your eye caught by that rowan tree. The shot was taken looking down on it after an easy scramble, and it's fiery red stood out sharply, just catching the last of the fading sunlight. I'm always reminding myself when out walking to look at the minutiae of a place, as well as taking in the wider scenery; somewhere like the Lake District, it's all too easy to forget this I think.

Not so much a 'best pic of the day', but this is my best pic/achievement this year...Back end of September, I finally got the youngest off his PS4 and took him up to Caudale Moor. Glad to say he has been on a couple more since    O0

I got a lucky weather break on Monday 14 November, what was a cloudy day, and night, there was a few minutes break to set the camera, tripod and remote releases up to photograph the Supermoon.

The cloud starting to clear

Using manual settings, exposure details as follows:
ISO 100
1/100 sec exp
F5.6
300mm
No filter

The best photo, the brilliance of the moon overpowered the cloud, though you can see the cloud had an impact on the lower half of the moon.

The cloud quickly returned, after a couple of successful photos.

Though the moon photo was taken using the camera on the tripod and a cable remote shutter release, the last cloud shot was taken using the mobile as the remote shooting device. The set up comprised of:
Canon 750D 75-300mm lens
Manfrotto Tripod
Samsung Galaxy S6 using the Canon Connect App, connected using the standard Wi-Fi connection to the Canon 750D Wi-Fi

I do like the night sky.  Took this quick snap of the moon. whilst lying on the trampoline in our back garden earlier in the year.

My camera is just a decent point and click with a built in zoom lens, but it takes nice snaps. O0

Here's another from a walk on Bodmin a few months back.

Hope you like them. :)

Nice sets of moon shots you guys  O0

I think I may crib the settings you mention PeakRambler and see if my camera will provide such a good photo of a 'standard' moon (next time it is full).

They're brilliant photos.

Compacts today are as good as their bigger stablemates, the DSLR's.

I have the Canon SX280 compact (which does allow me to retain manual exposure control), which is as good as my DSLR, except, I can't attach either my Star 6 or Polarising filters....

Or, I'd dump the DSLR.

Three from earlier, actually on our way back so we stopped off so I could take a few photos, and as I had my tripod with me I was all set. I have lightened the fields on the last one so a bit of a cheat you could say  ;)  Plus, one is lit with the headlights to draw your eye up the path.
