Title: Tyldesley and Monton Circular Walk
Post by: Tyldesley Paul on 19:50:31, 17/07/18
Decided to take an evening walk near home on Sunday. Around 19km in total, starting and ending at the Guided Busway Park and Ride in Tyldesley Town Centre I followed the busway foot /cycle way toward Manchester as far as the end of the guided section at Ellenbrook. From here cross the road can continue along the Tyldesley Loopline (part of national cycle route 55) through the woods, under the East Lancs Road and past the remains of the old Worsley Station platforms and on to Monton Green. The journey back involves crossing the canal so the you can walk back along the canal path with the canal on your left. This takes you through Worsley Village and past the marina in Boothstown before continuing on as far as the Old Boat House in Astley. From here you leave the path and cross the bridge (The Old Boat House does great beer and food) and head towards Tyldesley passing the Astley Mining Museum on your left which includes Lancashire’s last remaining pit head and engine house. Then back across the east lancs into Tyldesley and along the guided busway to back to the car park. Some great wildlife (foxes, badgers, owls and bats, as well as the largest fish I’ve ever seen in a canal), interesting features and a lot of history in a mainly off road walk in pleasant countryside surroundings in a very built up area.
