A nice walk starting from Hartington onto Wolfscote Dale - Shining Tor - Milldale - Alstonfield - Narrowdale - Beresford Dale and back to Hartington. Just under 10 miles all in.

The walk starts with a steady climb out of Hartington, a look back over the village.

Then it was back down to the river and the start of Wolfscote Dale.

Further down Wolfscote Dale.

Looking up from the Dale.

I've walked this way many times before but never noticed this pump until today, it was used to pump water from the river to farms on the tops.

The river was quite high and fast flowing.

Fishpond Bank at the end of Wolfscote Dale.

Then it was up Pinch Bank onto Shining Tor.

The view down the valley from Shining Tor.

Back down Shining Tor into Milldale.

Then up to Alstonfield and The George.

And the obligatory pint in front of the open fire.

I thought I was seeing things, I only had one pint honest.

On the way down to Narrowdale.

There is always a cow or two on the path.

Back to Hartington via Beresford Dale.

A nice walk on a clear and sunny day but very windy. At least I got a pint this time. O0

Looks like a good walk Micky! O0 I must admit I was a little confused at first as I hadn't realised there was another Shining Tor... :-[

It was a good walk, are there two Shining Tor's then or have I got it wrong. It wouldn't be the first time and I'm sure it wont be the last.  :2funny:

Cracking photos Mickey and I recognise most of those areas. I've done a lot of walking in that patch! Love the White peak area.

By the way did you realise there is also two Eyams aswell? One near stoney middleton and one near Hathersage (Plague village)

Thanks Steve, perhaps we should get together sometime and do a couple of walks in the White Peaks, your not far from me being in S-O-T, I'm just south of Derby.

No I didn't know there were two Eyams, every day's a school day on this forum.

Nice one Micky, that's one of my favourite areas.

What's The George like at the moment? I heard someone say it has turned into a bit of a gastro-pub?
(I'm thinking ahead to spring, when camping at the campsite, a walk in the dales, and an evening in the pub might be in order).

It's not too bad the food is creeping up in price but the old place has still got some of it's country pub charm. Get in early though because it seems quite popular, I was there early doors and it soon started to fill up and that was mid week.

Sounds good.

Wouldn't be a problem! - besides, we'd be sitting outside.

What beers are on offer?

We tried to get into The George a few weeks a go for a bar meal on a friday night, got there around 7.30pm hardly expecting anyone there. It was that packed couldn't even get through the door, so went to the Royal Oak in Wetton instead...Now that's a interesting pub to check out  O0
