Title: Bethesda parking
Post by: MikeW on 13:03:40, 30/06/17
I'm planning on doing crib lem / llech ddu in the near future.
I was wondering if anyone has any tips on where to park in Bethesda?
All I can find is 'on a residential street in town' or 'near the water works' but I can't see anything on google earth that won't be in a passing bay or field entrance and don't want to park outside someone's house then spend 20+ mins putting boots etc. on.
I heard one of the farmers up there has a bit of land put aside with an honesty box. Anyone know which farm / bit of land?
Thanks.

Thanks DK.
Added a few possible parking locations to the map with the help of the post you linked.

There is a small carpark next to the George inn, in upper Bethesda.
Ive parked there many times, often for many hours on end, and its a safe place to park a quality car, and there are no parking restrictions.
The pub has a Welsh name Yr Sior" but that is George in English.
The carpark is safe to park all day, and its free.
The pub is top left in upper Bethesda.

Thanks Dyffryn.
Google maps shows appears to show the English name, The George. With a car park kind of around the back at SH625671.
Was hoping there might have been something with less walking on streets at the start of the walk, excited dog pulling me along and wanting to go to the toilet after the drive there, but the consensus seems to be that by Yr Sior is the best place to park all things considered. Will be sure to carry pick up bags and hope it gets used before I pass the last public bin.
Many thanks.

Parking is a total nightmare in both Bethesda and Upper Gerlan, the roads are so narrow, with hardly any parking spaces available, and definately residents only.
I cannot remember who told me about the car park just behind the George, but ive used it for many years, even when living in South Wales.
There is a walk of around a mile or so, until you reach the main mountainside of the Carneddau, but for peace of mind, and knowing your car is safe, its the best location.
The main criteria, is that its totally safe, is free, for as long as you want.
Some years ago, i parked there for nearly twelve hours, and the car was as i had left it, which is not alway's the case nowdays

I park in Rachub near the football field. Loads of free parking and only likely to be busy if there is a footy match on - and I have never seen one there! Roughly at SH 623682

Thanks MAD.
I had heard 'near the football field' but had been unable to spot it on Google Earth.
Got it now and now I see why... Was looking for something rectangular lol.

Finally got around to doing this walk on Sunday. Thanks again for all the parking advice.
Managed to find a spot in Gerlan without getting in anyone's way. There is just the odd spot here and there to be found.

Downtown Bethesda is easily accessible by Metro, car, bus and bicycle. Bethesda has 16 public parking garages and surface lots. There are garages at 7601 Woodmont Avenue, 4935 St. Elmo Avenue, 4854 Cordell Avenue, ...

Thanks for that.
However (perhaps fortunately?) the Welsh Bethesda (in the UK) is not so well endowed with valet parking.

Nice pictures - guess the Woodmont Ave parking lot is the closest. O0
