To be fair, Go Outdoors are the outdoors equivalent of B&Q. For example, I wouldn't ask anyone in B&Q for advise if I wanted to rewire my house or fit a new heating system. However, OK if you know what you're looking for and just want pointing in the right direction.

I agree though, I often wander around GO with my wallet burning a hole in my pocket only to leave feeling uninspired.

Yep, that's it in a nutshell.
Just to clarify - I was only seeking the location of the storm shelters whereabouts in the store and not in need of advice in buying one. I'd looked in the tents and survival eqpt. sections as well as all the 'obvious' locations - all to no avail.
Also, in the usual vein of having too many variables to make my mind up - I didn't get one as the choice was to either get a 4 person shelter or 2 x 2 people shelters.
I feel the bigger one is more sociable but guarantee I'll end up with it in my rucksack !  Hence the thought of sharing the 'load' - but that would be quite anti-social if needed to be used  !!!
I'm still pondering this one   :-\

Yep, thirded re Go Outdoors.

Been in there a few times to buy something big and come away with just a few bits instead.

Had a similar experience shopping for emergency shelters in the Warrington branch a couple of weekends ago. I wanted the 2man. Asked an assistant where they were and if they had them in stock. The reply was if we have that one in stock it will be with any others that we have in on display. I eventually managed to find the others on my own and no they didn't have the 2 man.
Turns out its a collect only item but only 1 or 2 branches stock it. Eventually bought and delivered from elsewhere online for the same price.

Seeing as GO seem to be getting slated I thought I'd share a positive review  O0

A few months ago I wanted to replace my boots and wanted the same model and GO had them on sale but only in stock in 2 stores, the nearest being over 200 miles away. They were listed as "collect only" but I contacted their customer service and they arranged to have them sent to my nearest branch and put aside, they said I'd have to pay the delivery fee of a couple £££ but I was fine by that.

Couple of days later I went to my local GO, and got the boots that were put away for me, tried them and then paid but there was no delivery charge added  O0

Very rarely do I visit a store like GO just to have a nosey, I usually have something in mind and then see if the item is in stock at one of the nearest stores to save a trip.

For every disatisfied customer, there are dozens of happy ones but you only hear the complaints  ;)

Until last August I used to patronise the GO in Penrith. I always found the staff there knowledgeable about the products they were selling. The ones I spoke to walked in the area and had first hand experience of the clothing etc they were selling.

Likewise, I've only ever had positive experiences using GO, but then I normally know exactly what I want before I get there and have either done my homework and made sure they have it in stock or pre-ordered for collection, always pays to do your hoemwork with them and  used their price match +10% for some great deals.

Went to GO a couple of years ago for new walking boots. Knew what I wanted(Scarpspas) but my size not visible. The assistant was most helpful and went off to the store room to find the right size. He also clearly knew his stuff about walking boots and was a walker himself. I like GO for trainers too because they always seem to have a good choice of quality Goretex types.

Maybe not everyone likes GO but I can only speak as I find and I think they are OK.

Just to be clear I wasn't saying I don't like GO.
Its great in this day and age of online shopping to have a large local store where you can go, park easily and for free then pick up, look at and try on the stuff you are interested in buying then go ahead and buy it on the spot at a competitive price if it meets your requirements.
On other occasions I've had great service there from knowledgeable staff.

A few years ago I enjoyed visiting outdoor markets. I noticed the same stock on each clothing stall. Each was operated by Asians.
I bought something and got talking to the stall holder. He told me that the same wholesalers provided for them all on a 'sale or return' basis.
So, the appearance of competition is misleading. Same stuff, same price.

If all these brands are owned by the same people they will over time start to focus each outlet in a given direction. They will be looking at the big picture. The manufacturing 'brands' will be just that, names. All produced in the same factory, to the same standards.
Does not bode well for the consumer.

Actually this is something B&Q got right, their specialist assistants are ex-plumbers, electricians etc.. Mostly they DO know their stuff.

It's obviously something that varies from store to store, because I've found the old-timers who shelf fill in the B&Q I use in Watford will volunteer information when you're standing looking perplexed in the plumbing section, for example.

My gripe against GO as I've said on here once before is that they refuse to transfer items between branches, as was the case when the £180 coat I wanted was only in stock in stores many miles away.
