« on: 15:46:39, 22/05/06 »
Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone has got some advice for a bunch of walking novices tackling the Great Glen Way in June?

What sort of clothing, equipment etc is needed? Any general walking advice?

many thanks!!!

Chris

Don't do it in wellies and a fisherman's oilskin, which is what I wore years ago when attempting to climb the Cuillins in the Isle of Skye. Crippling, but at least I was fairly dry.

I guess just the usual advice: good waterproof walking boots, and a breathable waterproof jacket (Goretex if you can afford it).

Are you planning to backpack/camp?

Hiya Jemma,

Have a look at my website for some advice on tackling long distance walks:

If you're still thinking about what to do, the West Highland Way is supposed to be a lot more scenic and enjoyable than the Great Glen Way which mainly follows roads and tracks the entire distance.

We camped, but there were plenty of guesthouses, B&Bs, bunkhouses, hotels, etc along the way.
