I would say that basically I least prefer the summer.

As you I like the Autumn with the golden colours as the season changes and also quite often very still weather.
I like the Winter and, for me,  getting to the top of a hill on a crisp clear day with superb views takes some beating.
The Spring always makes me feel good with all the plants etc springing into life with the blaze of colour it brings.
Summer - Often too hot and too humid for me, I also prefer to walk where it is quiet and not with the extra numbers that only seem to come out in the good weather >:(, or is that me just getting grumpy as I get older :-\

I to prefer the Autumn followed by Spring. Autumn walking particularly in the Lakes when the bracken turns to a burnt gold colour is great. Usually the haze that you tend to get in the summer as cleared making for clearer pictures to.

I actually prefer being out and about in the six months between September and March; to me the summer is more for taking it easy.
My favourite time is late September, when the crowds have gone, along with many of the insects, the days are not too short and the weather is usually still quite reasonable.
Out in the wilds at this time of the year, I can sense the "winds of change" foretelling the coming winter, while the last vestiges of summer linger, and I find myself comparing it with my journey through life, when I contemplate what is behind me and I ponder on what lays ahead.

All year round is the quick answer, though to be honest and express a preference I would have to say early spring/late autumn.  The heat of a midsummers day gets to me on a long hike (though of course the sun drenched views on a clear day are a good payoff) and the very short winter days mess with my bio clock.  I'm not a particularly early riser, but like to challenge myself with long routes and invariably end up returning in the dark.  Which of course has it's own appeal.

The visibility tends to be better in the colder months - less haze,  some great cloud formations too.  There's something great about being high on the hills in mist, then you suddenly get a window of view or a total lift.
Here's an example of cloud breaking up showing Ben Nevis from Carn Mor Dearg:

Autumn and Winter. Spring a close second/third.

Summer? Too many bugs and above all too hot!

I Tend to the hardest walks in May or late september / early october because of the cooler, but still pleasant weather. But i love to be out in the summer, but nothing big.

I enjoy camping out in the winter, but i think thats the 'challenge' aspect of it, rather than the actual walking. shame we haven't had much snow in recent years.

Totally agree.

My favourite season is autumn, pleasantly warm and sunny, weather is fairly stable but it's not too hot.

I agree with the lack of snow as well. Would love to do some winter walking.

Thumbs up for Autumn as well .. as you sweat less it just seems so much more comfortable for clocking up the miles.  I'm not a huge fan of Summer walking, as I constantly feel the need to flop into patches of grass and sit panting for hours on end - but also I hate bees (evil little [censored]!), and so would rather not have to share company with them.

I've only done one hike in Winter so far and that was fantastic, you never knew what the weather was going to throw at you: howling gale one minute, blizzard the next, broken up by brilliant sunshine.  Looking forward to the next one.   ;)
