« on: 16:23:11, 25/03/08 »
hi, i was thinking of going for a hike/walk next weekened, for 2 nights or so. i'm stationed in edinburgh, so somewhere nearby would be good.
i was wondering if anyone could recommend a really picturesque walk/hike?

The Pentland Hills are very handy for Edinburgh - you can start walks at Hillend (the big artificial ski slope overlooking the bypass), or Boghall or the Ranger centre at Flotterstone.  Lots of shapely hills or valley/glen walks.
If you buy Explorer map 344 from a bookshop, all will be revealed!

How about the trossachs? what route would you recommend to take for a 2-3 day hike? any particular guidebooks?

There's a Rob Roy Way which goes from Aberfoyle to Pitlochry - too far for 3 days, but you could just do a chunk of it - details are easily found by a google search.  Ive no idea about guidebooks - if there are any, they'll be in your local bookshop along with the maps!

Whatever you decide to do, would you post some pics and let us know how you went on?
