Title: Chee dale and the smell of beef
Post by: pleb on 11:14:52, 11/08/16
Yesterday I dug beefy out his semi retirement on the alpaca farm. Having prised off his ankle tag, we met at Buxton station as arranged, beefy having managed to fare dodge! He wanted a coffee so we found a Morrissons with a coffee machine, we paid at the checkout, lets just say he managed to get a white coffee for the price of a black! Naughty beefy............
He had never done chee dale......

monks dale is a bizarre place
this looming green thing is a drystone wall, believe it or not, with more moss than you can shake a stick at

we came through Wormhill village and cut across country a bit to get back
a view of some crags, you can see the monsal trail in the bottom, the cycle hire hut was still open so we got 2 coffees and an ice cream for moi, I was paying again of course >:(
hats about it, think he liked chee dale but not monks dale!
Until next time................... O0

Enjoyed your TR pleb  O0

Have I missed something re Beefy, as I always enjoyed his TR and VR of his and April's exploits, and there doesn't seem to have been anything for ages?

Just noticed the comment about April and Beefy leaving the forum too - also very sorry to hear that. I really enjoyed their reports and their sense of humour.  :(

Probably my favourite routeing route - at least of those within 45 minutes from home.  I love the way you go from Middle England to Middle Earth as you enter Monks Dale.

Forgot to say, its East of Buxton a few miles, not far. U can easily find it on OS maps.

O0  Good to know, as I don't drive and rely on public transport for some of my solo wanderings.

Think the best bet for public transport is to walk from Buxton along the Wye............which is one walk I aint done. You can still do chee dale, but there will be lots of miles involved!!!

Cheers, I just took a look at that on the map - it's not really clear if there's a path along the Wye from Buxton and haven't found much in the way of info online. Might be a trip for me and the OH in the car one afternoon rather than a long solo walk. Mind you, we're planning on moving over that way next year so I suppose it'll be easier to ramble out and just explore then.

I've walked in Chee Dale, accessing it by bus. The Transpeak and the 65/66/68 buses go to that area from Buxton. Here's a link to the timetables and a route map

http://www.derbysbus.info/times/

The walk through Millers Dale and Water-cum-Jolly Dale is lovely too    :)

Thanks for posting this walk Pleb. It gave me the impetus to finally walk Chee Dale today although I had scheduled it for a few weeks back.

As I walked I hummed the old hippopotamus song. Mud, mud, glorious mud. How I didn't slide into the river I'm still working out!

But a really enjoyable few hours with the autumn colours just coming through. Recommended.

Superb photos and TR.

I'm missing getting out to the dales, hills and moors of the Peak District, so it was great to see Chee Dale photos again.

Hopefully the end of next year, I'll be able to start walking again, once my leg has healed after a major rebuild.
