More Border Walking
« on: 10:50:25, 03/11/10 »
Just to feed my apparent obsession (I may give it up now..) with walking along the Scottish/English Border, I've just finished a three-day backpack along the Border ridge from Kielder to Byrness and back.
There was one wild camp and a less wild night at the Forest View hostel at Byrness (thanks again to Joyce and Colin for the tea, curry and beer - exactly what was needed!)
For those interested, the tale starts at http://northernpies.blogspot.com/2010/11/border-walk-peel-fell-and-carlin-tooth.html and goes for four blog postings working forwards, not backwards. For those of a nervous disposition, the account does contain a mildly spooky night time interlude on Carlin Tooth. (It was halloween y'see)
And there's a lesson about what happens when you abandon your car (I said it was parked, not abandoned) and the locals panic about whether or not you've gone into the forest to kill yourself.
Some kind of happiness is measured out in miles
