Walking boot sole repair
« on: 10:35:53, 26/12/18 »
Hi have a pair of mindel boots that I seem to have worn through the soles near the front (same on both, guess I'm heavy toed  ;D )

The boots were 130 and all the specialist boot repairs seem to have there own mindel price of 80, think they send them away

Not really worth it as its almost the price of the boots

Anyone have any experience with normal boot repair places like timpsons?
They said they can do it but can't guarantee it remaining waterproof
There not anymore as I've worn through the sole so dont think they can make it worse

Thanks

A few years ago I had a pair of walking boots re - soled by Timpsons, and they did a good job. Recently a friend had the same, and was happy enough
They have also repaired my everyday shoes
Generally, I think they do a good job, and are underrated

You could also try here. I haven't had boot repairs from them, but I have had clothing repairs, and a friend had the zip replaced in his AKto tent

How heavy or stiff are your boots? If you get something lighter or more flexible you will be less likely to wear out at the toe

I think that they are probably all sending them to LSR.

If you are going to a normal shoe repairers check what sole they are planning to put on, most don't stock soles with a decent tread.

Thanks
Looked at LSR and they charged 80 too for mindl, not sure what's different to other makes as that brand has its own different price

I'd say there a stiff B0, can just about manage a crampon.... Just, sometimes slips

Might just try timpsons
Got another winter pair if they don't come back waterproof

Cheers

I've used LSR and every time the boots have come back as good as new, and still waterproof. A recent resole of some badly abused Lowas came back perfectly restored, you would think the boots were a few weeks old at most. IMHO people like Timpsons do a good job but I would not trust them to sort out my expensive mountain boots.

I had a pair of Meindl boots resoled by these people:

They specialise in outdoor footwear, proper vibram soles used, they did a really good job. £52.

If you want to get a second quote from a specialist repairer, Feet First Resolers, at Foundry Street, Chesterfield are good.

I’d guesstimate they’d quote about 50 quid...which was price I paid when I got some Brashers and Scarpa resoled a way back, but a mate got away with under twenty when he got some Altberg boots re-soled. (Unlike me he took them in when just needed outer sole replaced, rather than complete sole unit.)

That is comparable with the price I paid to have Altbergs resoled by the factory.
