This was my last full day at Wasdale and and was determined to get to the top of Pillar. The morning started off bright and promising and even though Pillar is just out of sight, the walk ahead looked good.
Looking up to Yewbarrow where I had been the day before with not as good views.
Looking back down into Mosedale with glimpses of Wastwater and Burnmoor Tarn in the distance
The snow level was about 2500ft but nothing too bad. Further up I did use my snow grips but probably could have managed without them.
Once I reached the summit the cloud dropped a little and the views weren't as good. I hadn't seen a sole all day and as I couldn't see any other footprints in the snow i was hoping I had been the first to summit Pillar that day. Even though it was quite blowy I did summit hog for 5 minutes just because I could and it wouldn't upset anyone lol
I walked back down the way I had come up and and spent time at Looking Stead peering down into the Ennerdale Valley and looking over Haystacks and beyond.
The day was rewarded with a Pie and a pint(s) at The Wasdale Inn and ended what was a brilliant walk and a thoroughly enjoyable 5 days there.
The next day I drove round to Buttermere and on the way stopped to walk up Grike and Crag Fell. A nice but somewhat boggy walk at times! But good views from Grike looking out to sea.
But from Crag Fell the views looking into the Ennerdale valley with the High Stile range on the left and Pillar in the far right were amazing. For a low fell the rewards are massive.
This really did mark the end of my trip as the next morning in Butteremere it was pouring and as I had to be home by the next day I packed up and headed home knowing I had just had an amazing time in the Lakes
