Title: Robens Arrowhead one man tent.
Post by: gunwharfman on 15:40:01, 03/07/19
I found out yesterday that a garden centre in Chichester (who do not send out by mail or courier) had a Robens Arrowhead One Man tent in stock and on display. Never seen one before so after my morning run today, I whizzed over to have a look. First things first, Robens advertise it at £104, I've seen it online for £84 but the garden centre is selling it for £80. Chichester by pass, rubbish, traffic always going slowly and full stop!!!

It looked a 'good enough' tent to me, it weighs just over 3lbs and I was sorely tempted to buy it, but in the end I didn't. My Marmot Pulsar 1p weighs just half a pound more and has more inside space. Saving half a pound in weight by spending £80 in money did not seem the right thing to do. Its inside length is good, for my 5' 6" height my mattress would fit in easily and have about one foot of clear space behind my head. My rucksack would also fit in between the outer and inner tent easily.

It looked a good tent, side entry, all in one to erect, like the Zephpyros One and it was well stitched, couldn't find any faults at all. Its only drawback for me was the headroom, the highest point is 85mm and then it descends. My Marmot headroom is 95mm and I can move forward up to 12" before the inner tent lining goes lower. My Marmot is bright orange (which I dislike) but the Arrowhead is a dull brown, (I think it's brown but it could be red? I'm colourblind) so for me much better.

For the money, I think its really good, as long as you don't mind the headroom issue.

I'd describe the colour best as a brownish red, not good for stealth camping, and the design is a tunnel tent, for which you need the end guys pitched really taut otherwise it will sag in the middle.
In my brief search for it online I came across offers for less than the £80 your Chichester garden centre was asking, so I think you were wise to keep your hands firmly in your pockets.

Brownish red, so I was not far off then. Yes, I forgot to mention the tunnel tent, I did wonder about sagging. I would still like to buy a new tent but just cannot find one that's right for me.

I'm quite a fan of tunnel tents - yes you have to get the end pegs in really well, so that you can tension the tent good and tight, but they are dead easy to put up and are structurally sound if you pitch them correctly.

In fact my next tent might well be a tunnel tent - I've got my eye on the Nordisk Svalbard SI, a little toughie of a tent weighing 1.7kg.
